Elizabeth Riley is known to have been employed as a Professor
Emeritus in the Music Department at Miskatonic University between
the years of 1999 and 2006. During this time it is believed that
she established relationships with both Howard Phillips and Exu. While she does
not know many details regarding the Miskatonic Massacre (the experiment
which the Miskatonic University Physics Department conducted on
October 31st 1999 in which 13 people disappeared), she believes that
her research helped lead to the tragedy and feels immense guilt
over her involvement in the sound experiments which were linked to
the experiments of the physics department. Nevertheless, even after
the cessation of her employment at Miskatonic, she still avidly
researches sound’s qualities and effects. Her most recent
investigation resulted in a podcast called Signals
which was unfortunately shut down due to its infringement upon the
Edict—an interesting point that makes it apparent that the Edict
can effect even people who have not personally agreed to
it.

When Howard received a voicemail from Exu, the Sentries discovered a link in the voicemail that led to a file sharing website in.solit.us. On the website four different users (Saturday Betty, Dr. Betty, Gaia, and BR) had uploaded four different related files, all on the subject of music and the cosmos, or the ancient Greek myth of the omphalos. The files have been archived on the wiki.

Many of the email conversations are found in the thread on Sentry Outpost. Below are the
conversations with individual Sentries.
[edit] Correspondence with Mapmaker
Dear Dr. Riley,
I hope this message does not come off as too forward, but I (and my friends, from whom you will no doubt hear) have heard quite a lot about you and your work. My first exposure to you comes from a mutual acquaintance - a gentleman by the name of Howard Phillips, who took one of your courses in the late 1990s at Miskatonic University. I do not know if you remember him, but he remembered your teachings.
Our group (we call ourselves Sentries, from the name of our message board) has faced a series of tragedies and puzzling events, and they seem inextricably tied to the research you are doing. Our conundrums seem tied to a world of dreams and technology tied to the Origin Point in a way we do not quite understand. After Howard mentioned your work, we found a few of your documents (a Word document, a PowerPoint, an MP3 titled "Gaia's Hated Child Devouring", and a PDF) on a web site. In fact, we were directed to this information by another colleague of yours, a cryptic mathematics professor from MU that we only know as eXu (but whose name seems to be Jakob).
As you can imagine, this is all quite puzzling. Let me add something else to this, however! I presume the "sound event" at the Origin of which you speak occurs near Halloween annually? I say this because there is a phenomenon called "the Scream" that is revered by yet another group of people who call themselves "Dreamers", which appears to be an intense pulse of sound/electromagnetic waves emanating from central West Virginia. I was fortunate enough to be in West Virginia the weekend before "the Scream" with some of these group's members. They all fled before the Scream occurred, except for one individual named Bridget, who is quite the independent spirit. She seemed to suffer intense pain from the experience - the other Dreamers, actually, feared for their lives, as they did not believe they could survive this sound event.
I am not sure how much of this you already know, Dr. Riley. I feel quite out of my league here, as my education is not in music or physics, but geography. And while I visited Arkham and the MU campus during my time at Boston University, I never met Howard face-to-face. But if I might, I would hope to ask you some questions.
This sound event - do you associate it with pain? Not necessarily personally, but in the broader sense - as you mentioned, there are sounds that heal and harm. Which category would you place it in, or does it depend on the individual? Are there certain types of people that are more attuned to these sounds, which is why residents of the area can suffer no ill-effects of the so-called Scream, but the Dreamers cannot? More prosaically, have you heard from Howard recently? He seems to have disappeared from our web forum, which worries us. And do you know our mysterious "eXu"? I am unsure why he acts so cryptically towards us. Finally, is your sound collector in the field a former student of yours, or just a volunteer?
Again, Dr. Riley, I apologize profusely for the length of this e-mail, its rambling nature, and for the volume of questions I have. I hope I have not overstepped my boundaries by being so frank with you - it is just that there are so many questions that I have that it is very exciting to be able to ask someone so knowledgeable as yourself about the topics.
Thank you again,
<Mapmaker>
PS: The notes to your most recent podcast mentioned a recurring dream that you have had. I understand that this seems to be a personal issue for you, and I hesitate to press the question. But dreams are such a major part of what has happened to my friends and I that I feel I must. The Dreamers I mentioned above all seem to share a common dream, in which they can interact with one another. I myself am not a Dreamer, and so have no first-hand experience of it. But the Dream is of a ruined city, plagued by madness and violence, with a surplus of cats. Is this a familiar experience? And if so, have you heard the drumming within it?
Dear <Mapmaker>,
Thank you for your lovely note. It is wonderful to hear from my listeners. Please, do not apologize for the length of your letter. I am known by my former students, and perhaps my Podcast Show listeners, for my mental wanderlust which tends to take us down some unusually long roads.
It is always nice to hear my former students still recall and refer to my teachings at M.U. Thank you for sharing this with me. Your letter, although filled with fascinating information, reminds me of long ago days which must be forgotten. I will tell you up front, <Map>, that I am not a person who speaks casually about her former students or friends with strangers. Understand I am not being evasive. This is simply my way. As a teacher and friend, I want those who associate with me to feel I am trustworthy and discreet.
My present research has rightfully diverted my attention. I admit I am consumed by the "Points". As you know from my Podcast Show, I believe, as do others, there are sounds around us which can heal and or harm. Of course, whether a sound heals or harms depends on the receiver. There are sounds and vibrations that have the capability to heal all of us. And, yet, still others that have the capability to harm all of us. Although those sound events are valid, I am very interested in the sounds that may be capable of both healing and harming. Allow me to explain. Think back into your childhood, <Map>, and bring a sound forward which comforts you. Now, what if I re-recorded or recreated this sound for you. You could then play this sound and experience your good feelings again.
This experience of good feeling would heal you. But, perhaps, this same good feeling sound may not bring to me the same experience. Your good feeling sound might stir up my system, creating chaos in my body's sound DNA, which could harm and lead eventually to disease of some sort. I believe I spoke about how our bodies and our universe are made up of sounds and vibrations on "Signals". This example is quite like the Lorenz movie I shared with you. One particular sound or noise, can bring chaos to a harmonious system of sound. One particular sound or noise can also do the reverse.
Returning to your question about our Source Point. This is a very powerful signal. It extends far and wide. As we discussed on my Podcast Show, there seem to be many variables to consider when we discuss the effects of the Source Point. Distance, position and personal sound DNA must be examined.
Now, let us turn our attention to the A, B, I, D and R Points. I am gathering more and more useful information about these Points and their relationship to the Source Point and perhaps to each other. Some of these Points appear to actually block the powerful signal sent out by the Source Point. I'm certain you remember this from Episode One of my Podcast Show.
It is so sweet of you to mention my Sound Scouts. As long as it is agreeable with them, it would be my pleasure to introduce one of my Sound Scouts to my listeners in an upcoming episode of "Signals". One of my Scouts sent some very interesting data about the R Point this morning. I promise to share this with you soon.
You and your Sentry friends sound like a curious group. I appreciate that quality in students as well as listeners. I am very pleased to hear you enjoy my Podcast Show.
Finally, I thank you for your polite inquiry about my recurring dream. I admit it has grown even longer after listening to the "D" Point recording repeatedly. That said, I do not believe the details of any dream should be shared. For me, dreams are highly personal and something one should only share with a licensed dream analyst. I will tell you, however, that retrieving sound from dreams has been a life long goal of mine. I hope some day in the future to be able to use the Cap, I spoke about in my last Podcast Show, to record dream sound. To record, play back and experience the sounds of your dreams would be remarkable. Wouldn't it?
Please remember to tune in to next week's episode of "Signals".
Yours faithfully,
Dr. Elizabeth Riley

Dear Dr. Riley,
Thank you for your thoughtful response to my e-mail. I hope you forgive me for the probing nature of several of my questions - i.e. regarding your students & colleagues at MU and about your dreams. I suspect you will get similar (or perhaps even more pointed and invasive) questions from my friends. We have had some heartbreak and frustration in the past, and we are desperate for answers to our mysteries. I hope I am wrong, but I fear that some of my friends may sound even angry in their letters. Please do not take it personally. There is simply anger among some of us, and it may be vented in uncouth ways.
Unpleasantries aside, I want to say I look forward to every show, Dr. Riley! Your research is quite fascinating, and I anxiously await the information from Point R, and even an introduction to the Sound Scouts. I am curious as to how the Sound Scouts actually collect the data you receive. To be honest, I had hoped that perhaps Howard had become one of your scouts - it would explain why we had not heard from him recently. But I digress.
I find the concept of Sound DNA very intriguing. I understand that a given sound can harm one person and heal another, depending on their sound DNA. In your research, have you found that there are people with more "sensitive" sound DNA than others? That is, they are affected by a wider range of sounds to a greater degree than most people? And have you come across a systematic method to "profile" a person's sound DNA? I am not interested in learning an individual's sound DNA - that I imagine would be quite personal - just whether a technique exists to determine it.
Anyway, with all those questions, I imagine I should give you an explanation in return. My question regarding your dream was an innocent one - the community I mentioned in my previous e-mails known as Dreamers are quite free in sharing their dream experiences; perhaps I had become accustomed to such behavior. Regardless, I understand that your dreams are a personal experience, so please know that the information about the dreams I am about to describe is not an attempt to get you to tell me anything about your personal dreams. I just feel that you might find this information intriguing.
The Dreamers share an environment in which they perceive themselves as cats in a massive ruined city, with woods on its outskirts. But perhaps of more interest to you is the presence and influence of sounds within what we call "the Dreamscape". There are two instances which come to mind. The first involves the Dreamer Bridget (who I mentioned in my previous letter). She is unique in that she manifests not as a cat, but as herself. Anyway, in the Dreamscape, there is a college campus with a radio tower nearby. The radio tower had been broadcasting the message "This is only a test". As she approached the tower, the cats (other Dreamers) who had been following her stopped, but she continued on. She suffered as a result - as she put it, blood ran down her face - but her resilience against what I assume was the harmful sound the tower was putting out amazed the other Dreamers and gave her the confidence she needed to stay in West Virginia for the so-called Scream (which I assume is linked to your Origin Point).
The second instance of sound in the Dreamscape is the strange case of the Drummer. Within the city, there is a man who has drums (the specific type of drums seem to change between dreams). He seems to have continually gotten more powerful as the Dreamscape has evolved: initially, his influence seemed to be confined to a small portion of the city, but in recent weeks the drumming can be heard throughout the city and beyond. While he seems to have no influence over the Dreamers (that is, the cats in the city), the drumbeat does seem to captivate (and dare I say control) the humans in the city. Perhaps not coincidentally, the humans have seemingly turned more vicious and cruel in recent weeks. Worryingly, Bridget seems to have been entranced by the drummer, dancing to his rhythms.
To be honest, however, our (Sentries - we on the whole are not Dreamers) interpretations of both this occurrence and that at the tower have been at best wild speculation. If you can shed any light on either of these instances, I would be most appreciative - however, I have really described them here for your own information. To that end, also, I have attached to this e-mail two sound files that appeared on Bridget's web site shortly after the Scream. Perhaps you would find them interesting?
As an aside - would you be willing to share your files of the D and I points? Please forgive me if this is an outlandish suggestion. I do not know how sensitive your research is - having been in academia myself, I have seen people who are willing and people who are not (or are simply unable) to share such data, and understand perfectly well if you feel uncomfortable or unable to share such information.
Thank you so much again for your considerate response to my first queries. And one more thing: please feel free to call me <Map>!
From your loyal listener,
<Map>
Dear <Map>,
I smiled when I opened my email account and found a follow up note full of interesting stories and questions from you. There is a lovely quote from a woman named Nancy Willard about curiosity; “Sometimes questions are more important than answers.” You are a curious man. I am not surprised to learn you are a fellow academic.
Allow me to address the questions I am able to address.
Sound DNA is a favorite topic for me. It is a fact that some human beings, and I would add some animals as well, are very sensitive to particular sound events. My Sound Scouts and I have done many tests with a variety of human beings. We have found there are some beings who react quite violently to some sounds while others may barely notice the event. This is very much like a food allergy. You could sit down and eat a 2 lb. lobster with melted butter and be happy and content, <Map>. Due to a shellfish allergy, the same meal would bring me near to death. As an academic, you know the only way to truly determine something like sound DNA is through a variety of tests on each individual. I believe our sound DNA is as unique as our genetic DNA.
Another listener wrote and requested a method to download my Podcast Show. I promise I am working on it and hope to have it available to you, my listeners, very soon. With all the inquiry and excitement about the Signals from the "I" Point and the "D" Point, I have requested some raw sound for you, my listeners, from my Sound Scout. Perhaps I can add this onto the list of treats for my upcoming Thanksgiving Special Podcast Show of "Signals".
Happy Thanksgiving.
Dr. Riley,
I thoroughly enjoyed your Thanksgiving special. I have more to say, but I wanted to dash off this warning. An individual named Eddie Pope who the Sentries are acquainted with has indicated that he believes there was a dangerous individual near Point R over the last few days. I know Lillian was at Point R recently; I thought it would be prudent to warn her for dangers. Eddie believes this dangerous person could be involved in murders, in fact.
<Map>
Dear <Map>,
Thank you for your concern. I promise I will send along your message to Lillian this morning. I know from Lillian's report that the people living in the area surrounding the "R" Point are genuinely frightened of "something". Your acquaintance, Eddie Pope, may have heard some of the local's stories and warnings as well.
Lillian's interview with Mrs. Compton should be posted this evening. Without giving anything away about this fascinating interview, I do feel I can say that this boy's experience at the "R" Point does make me wonder what we have stumbled upon.
I hope you are enjoying your holiday weekend.
[edit] Correspondence with Obtusitivity
Dear Obtusitivity,
Thank you for your correspondence. I enjoy reading messages from those of you who are out there listening to my "Signals".
You must be very attuned to the psychic powers of your mind, Alex. I am referring to your mention of the Bloop and the Hum. These are two of the many topics for my Thanksgiving Special Podcast Show next week. I do hope you will be listening. I am certain my Special will shed some light for you.
Wonderful to hear former students of mine still think so highly of me. It warms a teacher's heart. You are too kind to write me and include such a compliment.
Yours faithfully,
Dr. Elizabeth Riley

Dr. Riley,
Hi, my name is Roxanne, and I've been fascinated listening your recent podcasts. What an interesting thing you have chosen to study since your retirement from the University.
Your last podcast, has left me with a couple of questions. Firstly, you talk about something called "the cap" and mention you will include it in your footnotes, but unfortunately you didn't include any information or a link. Secondly, after listening to your recordings of Points I and D, I'm curious as to the bah-bum sound present in all recordings. I'm wondering if it is just a background sound that you have added for affect, or is it present in the actual recordings? It reminds me of a heartbeat.
Thank you for taking the time to read my email, I look forward to your reply.
Sincerely,
Roxanne
Dear Roxanne,
Thank you for your interest in my Podcast Show "Signals".
Ah yes, the "I" Point and the "D" Point recordings are remarkable. Aren't they?
The "bah-bum" sounds you are referring to were not added. Although the recordings are the exact sounds from the field, they are not the raw sound taken on location by my Sound Scout. The raw recordings of the sounds at these points would sound like tiny, tiny blips. Barely audible to you or me. With this in mind, my Sound Scout adjusted the volume several times to make it easier for the naked ear to hear the unique sounds. The result does tend to exaggerate the signals, but they are our signals. I hope I have answered your question.
Thank you for the "footnotes" reminder. You will find links available to you now.
Please remember to listen to my Signals next Thursday. I am planning a Special Thanksgiving Podcast Show.
Yours faithfully,
Dr. Elizabeth Riley
Dear Dr. Riley,
I just finished listening to Episode 5 of Signals. Once again, thank you for delving deeper into this fascinating subject. While listening to the podcast I was reminded of something I ran across several months ago, concerning ultra low frequency sound.
It was reported by Russia's Institute of Solar-Terrestrial Physics, that their Siberian Solar Radio Telescope detected a massive ultra low frequency blast at the exact moment of the Interstate 35W Bridge collapse in Minneapolis. Your "origin point" suffered a similar event in November 1988 with the collapse the Green Bank, Radio Telescope. Do you think ultra low frequency sound caused the collapse at Green Bank? If the origin point repeats this event or sound why hasn't the Green Bank Radio Telescope suffered the same damage repeatedly? What changed? Do you think the sounds emanating from the other points has prevented this? Are their sounds acting like white noise? Did these other points start emanating these sounds after 1988 or did their sounds change? I'm sorry for the barrage of questions, but my curiosity is getting the best of me. In fact, I think I better send this email along before I bombard you with an avalanche of questions.
Thank you again for taking the time to read my emails and as always, I look forward to your reply.
Sincerely,
Roxanne
Dear Roxanne,
It is nice to hear from you again. I believe I have another very curious listener of my Podcast Show "Signals". As you may know, I am a retired teacher, Roxanne, and nothing makes a teacher happier than to have a classroom full of curiosity.
I have read the reports about the "bridge" and the ultra-low frequency blast associated with its destruction. There are many conspiracy theorists with their fingers pointed at the military. I have always been curious about the Lilydale Caves not far from the bridge site. These caves have a history of "activity" that reminds me of our Source Point. You make a very good comparison.
We do know these various other Points do react to the Source Point. "A", "B" and "I" are able to block the vibrations from the Source Point in its tracks. Is there some sort of sound system coming from below us? I believe this to be true. I do not know the purpose of this system. It could be responsible for keeping the telescope, you referred to in your note, safe. This may be a benefit of the Point system. I still do not know what is "activating" the signals my Sound Scouts are now recording. There is no activity present at the Source Point at the moment. The latest Point, the "R" Point, includes the exact signals we heard previously at the "D" Point as well as a new set of signals. We had the two and now we have the four. Is one speaking to the other? I do not know. I am sending my Sound Scouts on to other Points. One of my Sound Scouts will be returning to the "D" Point and the "I" Point to follow up as well.
There seems to be so much we must still learn about the Points. I hope you are as excited as I am about days ahead.
Yours faithfully,
Dr. Elizabeth Riley
[edit] Correspondence with Dante
Dear Dante,
It is a wonderful feeling to have a listener write and request to hear more of my Podcast Show. I promise I am working on making my "Signals" available for a download. It makes me smile to think of my listeners "tuning in" while walking about with their personal Ipod systems. This is something I should have for you, and other listeners like you, over the next few days.
Please take some time during the upcoming holiday to listen to my Thanksgiving Special Podcast of "Signals" next Thursday evening.
Happy Thanksgiving.
Yours faithfully,
Dr. Elizabeth Riley
I sent Dr. Riley an email thanking her for making the podcasts downloadable. I also took the opportunity to ask her some admittedly pointed questions about the Riley Hypothesis and "SNET" and also about the Omphalos poem.
Dear Dante,
It is very nice to hear from you again. I am happy to have "Signals" available to all my listeners anytime anywhere. Please, feel free to take "Signals" with you on your daily walk or jog. It might prove to be a pleasant way to enjoy my Podcast Show.
I hope you will be listening again this week. Episode Six will take a look at some wonderful sound history and then a quick peek into the future of sound. We will also spend a good part of my Podcast Show discussing the Points.
Yours faithfully,
Dr. Elizabeth Riley
Dr. Riley,
Since you didn't seem interested in responding to any of my previous queries, I thought that I could try again and send you something that might interest you more. After downloading your latest podcast, I extracted out the H-Point recordings with the goal of isolating these signals to which you have been referring. If I am understanding correctly, you are mostly referring to the very low "thump-thumps" that intermittently occur in the sound stream. If I am correct about this, then one of my first questions is why you are focused on these subtle thumps rather than the fairly loud and obvious whooshes, etc that also seem to be present at these Sound Points? If I were standing in a wood and heard those sounds, they would certainly get my attention!
Nonetheless, I believe I have managed to isolate these thump-signals in the sound spectrum. I am attaching a screenshot showing my efforts. The top panel contains the sound from December 03. You can see that I've marked what I believe are the 4 signals you mention in your podcast: Two isolated thump-thumps and a pair of joined thump-thumps. I would be most appreciative, first of all, if you could confirm that I have correctly identified these signals that you find so interesting.
The bottom panel contains the sound from December 04, following this supposed "ritual." You can see that I've marked the same 4 signals: two isolated and two paired, although they occur in slightly different temporal locations in the sound stream. However, I've also provisionally marked two additional potential signals which appear quite obvious on the visual sound spectrograph, but when I listen to that portion of the sound (over and over!) I have to admit that hear nothing additional, which has caused me to question whether I am identifying the right sounds at all.
I hope that you find my efforts interesting, at the very least, and I also hope that you can perhaps confirm some of my detective work. You have raised some interesting speculations about this phenomenon, which I hope to continue to follow.
Yours,
Dante
Dear Dante,
Thank you for writing to me and including your very interesting point of view and thorough research. It is important for you to understand that my Sound Scout Lillian has her own special techniques which she has developed for the Point Project. Lillian is much like an artist. She tells me she creates a background in order for us to pick up the frequencies at these Points. I do not believe we could hear them in any other way. Lillian did a great deal of experimenting with white and static and other atmospheric noise over the last year. She has developed some sort of generator which she uses while doing the Point recordings. So, yes, you do hear quite a bit of "noise". We are not concerned with the "noise" background. I do apologize for the volume of the Lillian's noise, but it is necessary for us to increase the volume in order to hear these sounds. Think of Lillian's noise concoction as the path to the signals. We will keep our attention on the "thump-thumps".
Your graph seems to be correct. You should know that I had to listen to Lillian's recording two or three times before I heard the last and very low "thump-thump" of the post ritual "H" Point. I will ask Lillian to isolate these for you, Dante. I would hate for you to miss the excitement of this sound event.
Thank you again, for sharing your research and questions. I hope you will understand that I am always more than happy to reply to the questions I'm able to answer.
Yours faithfully,
Dr. Elizabeth Riley
[edit] Correspondence with Biff
I found the recordings at points I and D to be quit interesting if not a bit familiar. I was recently at point D and while I could not detect the noises, I did sense something when on the mound itself. There is one aspect of these noises that I wanted to ask you about. Do you think there is some form of destructive interference occurring as these points reflect the source and phase shift it? Along those lines, I have a source sound that I'd like to attempt to cancel and was wondering if you could help. The sound as recorded at the phone number: 3212490216 appears to be quite destructive and I'd like to be able to formulate a counter to it. Can you help?
...
As far as the Source Point is concerned, I am not convinced that the event of the sound change at the "D" Point is connected to the Source Point's sound event. I do believe there is a relationship to the Source Point and these other various Points, but I have not been able to make the connection yet. We know some of these other various Points can block our Source Point sound event, but why and how?
Thank you for sharing your found sound. I promise to listen to it when I have a spare moment.
...
Try the veal,
Tip your waitress,
Listen to my Thanksgiving show
Dr. Riley,
Your recent podcast regarding the "H" point was very informative. I have some information regarding the young man and the ritual that Lillian recorded. I wonder if we can compare notes and come away with some correlation.
As you may recall, I was recently at the "D" point, but I neglected to mention why. The reason I was at the "D" point was to retrieve a box. The location of the box was revealed by an associate of one of your former students, Howard Phillips. The box contained a tarot card and several personal effects, or artifacts as it were, belonging to a now deceased associate of Howard's. Prior to this, another faithful listener had retrieved a similar box at the "I" point containing personal effects from still another deceased associate of Howard's. The same is true for the "R" point, with still another deceased associate. Now we have clues pointing to yet another cache of personal effects located at the "H" point from yet another deceased associate of Howard's. One interesting aspect is that some of the artifacts were marked with a hand print appearing to be comprised of a pale-colored substance, possibly Butoh makeup.
So what about the chap doing the ritual? Well, a few of us, your faithful listeners, suspect that this fellow is a seventh colleague of Howard's who was driven mad when he encountered a digital version (not a recording, but more like a digital reproduction or representation) of the "sound" at the source point.
I know this is a lot of information to process, and I feel that the things your sound scouts are picking up are related in a strong way to these events. Any insight you can provide would be much appreciated.
Kindest regards,
~Biff
Dear Biff,
The information you have included in your email is very interesting. I am not only curious about what the "colleague" is actually doing at these Points to seemingly cause such a change in the sound event, but also what he believes he is doing out there. It breaks my heart to hear how this young man is suffering. And you really think this young man doing the ritual is somehow a "colleague" of Howard Philips? Are you a close friend of Howard's? It is such a small world. Isn't it? I was very pleased to hear from my dear friend, Jakub, that he has been keeping Howard distracted from all his cares, by running him around the country on some sort of on-going project. I am amazed that Howard would allow anyone to pull him away from the computer for such a length of time. I think the fresh air and change of scenery will serve him well.
Returning to the young man and the Butoh-like ritual. From what you are telling me, can we assume that the young man Lillian saw performing the Butoh last evening has a connection to the boxes you and the other listeners are retrieving? Why are the boxes being left at the same points I mention? What could be the purpose of this? Please know that Lillian and I have no interest or involvement with leaving boxes filled with remnants of the dead. I am sorry, Biff, but I am only coming up with more questions than answers for you.
Let us stay in contact with each other. I promise to keep you up to date with any new discoveries. I've yet to select next week's Point. Lillian has suggested we return to the "I" Point. She's curious as to what changes we might discover there now. I will post a map as soon as I make my decision. Although, I admit, I am hesitant now. It feels as though someone is watching me by listening to my Podcast Show and using my research locations for their own sort of game. This is terribly upsetting to me. Please be careful, Biff. I shall post another warning on my Podcast Show page for all my listeners. We should all use great care while around these Points from this day forward.
I thank you for writing to me with your information.
Yours faithfully,
Dr. Elizabeth Riley
Dr. Riley,
I'll be happy to attempt to answer your questions, and perhaps pose a few of my own, especially as regards The infamous Dr. "U", but first I need your assistance. Could you send the attached photograph to Lillian to see if this is the same person she saw at the "H" point?
Thank you so much.
~Biff
Note: The image of the Tarot Killer as provided by Eddie Pope is included in this email.
Dear Biff,
Lillian's first response late last evening was that the man in your photograph was the man doing the ritual. She then contacted me moments later and said she feels this could be the same man. She then added that it was very dark at the "H" Point and worries about pointing a finger at the wrong person. I know you would probably like a more definite answer, but Lillian tends to be very cautious.
Dr. Riley,
Thank you for forwarding that picture to Lillian, I wish the results were more conclusive.
To your points below, current theory is that a friend/former colleague of Howard's is indeed visiting the sound event locations as he was mutual friends with the deceased. I would not consider myself close friends with Howard, but we did engage in dialogue on occasion and I know he was troubled of late by increasingly disturbing nightmares to the point that he was losing sleep for fear of revisiting these nightmare events. It is comforting to hear that Dr. U has "pulled him away" from his computer since evidence indicates he (Howard) was also exposed, through his computer, to the digital representation of the source point sound event. Something known amongst us "Sentries" (the name we use to describe our collective investigators) as "The Scream". We feel that this was the cause of his nightmares. It makes for a very interesting correlation if what you mentioned in your podcast regarding the dream world and the Butoh world can be taken literally.
We have yet to determine from where exactly these artifacts are materializing. Their highly personal nature belies a closeness to the prior owners that few can claim. It may not be beyond the realm of possibility that Thaumaturgy or Sympathetic Magic is involved. Concepts introduced to us by Dr. U himself, under the pseudonym of Exu. The other question then is why are they being left, and are we Sentries interfering with something, for better or for worse, by retrieving them.
It would be interesting to see a return to the I point. As I mentioned earlier, that was only artifact so far that did not exhibit signs of the white substance found on the other artifacts. We did retrieve the artifacts prior to your podcast interview with "Pee Dee", so perhaps the person leaving these things incorporated the Butoh rituals after listening to your show. I do apologize for jumping to such conclusions, my mind is racing with possibilities and implications but I am having dificulty putting anything together without further evidence.
These are questions I have heard from others as well. I wish I knew the answer. My mind is spinning around and around as I search for connections. Of course, I think about the signals we are discovering. Could the objects be influencing the sounds we are recording? I can't find a connection there. Or are the signals only tied into the Sound and Vibration Ritual performed by the young man's actions? Of course, from what I have been told, the young man was first drawn to the objects at the "H" Point and then performed his butoh-like ritual. Do we have any evidence that the objects exist at these locations before the young man arrives? My mind is spinning once again. This is quite like trying to figure out a large storm's beginnings. I'm sure you have heard of the "butterfly effect". Edward Lorenz was a very thoughtful man. Could one small gesture have a much larger consequence? It is something we must all think about.
I will ask Lillian to keep an eye out for anything unusual, like black boxes and objects, at the "I" Point.
Hello Dr. Riley,
Let me cut to the chase as this is important.
You've known Dr. Jakob U for a long time. Is (was) he Anwell Barierascu?
Thanks,
~Biff
Dear Biff,
Are you familiar with Leon Trotsky? A dear, old friend and colleague came to see me yesterday. Without going into the details of our meeting, I will tell you that after he left the following Trotsky quote repeated in my mind. "The end may justify the means as long as there is something that justifies the end." I do believe there may truly be times when there is "something that justifies the end".
I hope you have a wonderful holiday, Biff, and a very Happy New Year.
Yours faithfully,
Dr. Elizabeth Riley

Hello Dr. Riley,
I am another listener of Signals. I greatly enjoyed hearing from your field agent, Lillian. I noticed there was a thumping sound during the times she was speaking. Can you identify what it is?
Thank you,
WolfHawk
Dear WolfHawk,
It is so nice to hear from my "Signals" listeners. I will speak with Lillian today about the background sound. Lillian recorded her answers to my questions near the "R" Point location. Perhaps she was in a motel or camping. I do not know. I will give you an answer soon.
Yours faithfully,
Dr. Elizabeth Riley
