[edit] History
The Chorazos Cult was founded in the 16th century in the mountains of Romania, lead by a man named Chorazos. They worshiped Yog-Sothoth. They were exiled from Romania in 1594, from where they moved to England (possibly because of their unusual popularity with Queen Elizabeth) and built a temple in Finchley. The next year they were forced out of London again by their patron and moved to a house known as "The Oaks". In 1596, The Oaks was burned down by angry villagers and the few remaining survivors of the cult (including Chorazos himself) moved to Scotland. They found Scotland no more hospitable a place than England as they were once again attacked following the disapearances of several villagers. After Britain and Scotland were joined, rumors say they moved to the Colonies, though they had also established footholds in Britain's colonies, most notably India. Modern record places them in a manor in upstate New York, near Attica. It is understood that once an individual is a member of the Chorazos Cult, the only way to leave is through death.
[edit] Interactions with Sentries
- Kevin Cosby
GetMetOut (Kevin) attended a Chorazos ritual on
May 13, 2006:
GetMeOut: "The same post mentions "chorazos" which is ringing a bell somewhere in my brain chasm. I swear I've been to something put on by a group of people calling themselves that. There's a shitload to be said for ecstatic ritual - nothing else comes close to the feeling of total freedom. But I've been to so many late-night hooptie dances in the forest/cave/basement, I can't tell one from another (a situation not at all aided by the involvement of drinking/eating/swallowing things in order to play with the natives) - I mean, there was the one with the blood heads, one of them had some sort of giant bonfire, another with what I think was some sort of rodent worship - shit, I might have been half-way to Hale Bopp and I wouldn't have known unless I woke up the next morning donning a shiny new pair of Nikes and a Kool-Aid hangover" [1]
At The Feast, Devon
Conrad confirmed that he had seen Kevin at a Chorazos
ritual in Atlanta, Georgia.
- Jennifer Pike
Jennifer may had interactions with Chorazos, although it is not known if she knew about the cult specifically. Howard recalled her talking about Multi-Level Mayhem, a known Chorazos meeting board.
HPhack: I can remember Jen talking about an MLM, many of us thought he had been sucked into some kind of horrible get rich quick pyramid scheme. She was not amused and explained the last M was for "mayhem not marketing". [2]
Her checkbook recovered from the Mounds State Park referenced the
Barierascu Charitable Fund, known from the article
given to Johnny the Hack by the
Sculptor to be a front for Chorazos. It is speculated that Jen
might have been involved in a money laundering operation for the
cult, possibly as a means of income to pay off her student
loans.
- Stu Ronomi
StuR was publicly accused of being a Chorazos member by Y2Kveteran (Art) but Y2Kveteran later withdrew this accusation after StuR found Lucky5.
[edit] Presence in the Server Infection
Main article: Server Infections
The server infection was first noticed when Marie received a hosting bill saying that Sentry Outpost went through 9 Terrabytes worth of bandwidth in one month. After doing some investigating, Bryce and Stu both found rogue processes running on the webservers. These processes (boil.c & screamer.c) would listen for activity on certain ports (1031, 1313, 5217), and would either record the activity, allow access to other ports, or return data with the correct input.
While the Lucky5 program was never found to be a part of the
server infestation, it is believed to have caused the infection in
the first place. On December 16, 2006, the Lucky5 program connected to 208.97.178.171:5217 - aka Sentry
Outpost. This had the effect of wiping out the original Sentry boards and presumably
installing the screamer.c process on Port 5217. It is unknown as to
whether the boil.c process on Port 1031 was installed at this time
as well, or if it was installed at some later point through the
screamer.c.
There were also a series of PerlMUDs that were found on the servers
that had been hit by Lucky5. The first MUD was found on Port 4196. Although you could
login with the admin password, you could not create new accounts.
Eventually, Icculus was able to re-establish the MUD on
Ports 4242/4243 so that people could register their own accounts.
Many of the rooms had already been created by the user "chorazos"
although the room descriptions came from the Craigslists. This MUD suddenly suddenly
went offline around June 22, 2007.
One week later, the second MUD was found to be residing on Kevin's
computer. This MUD had a much more sinister
tone than the previous MUD and the text seemed to echo themes of
the I-Ching and the Oblation file rather than the Craigslists. This MUD
went offline July 12, 2007 when Kevin's PC was presumed to be
disconnected by his parents.
The third MUD was discovered when Lucky5 struck 74.244.69.37, the
computer in the Atlanta storage facility. The text seemed to be
based in part from the Sacred Texts from Zoroastrianism. This MUD was
shut down after sapagoo visited the storage facility.
