Bryce Droher lived in Los Angeles, California, and was the
System Administrator of Sentry Outpost as well as its ad-hoc
leader. He stayed at the site through the hacking that took place
in late 2006 and became the leader of the “Old Sentries.” He was an
excellent and empathetic leader, as well as a very smart man who
knew his way around a computer. He was hesitant towards the “New
Sentries,” but he ultimately tolerated and befriended many of
them.
During the time focused on decoding the packages, Bryce revealed
that he had also received a package, though his did not display
such extreme qualities as the one that Howard received. Not long
afterwards, in a completely unrelated event, Bryce was the first to
discover the unbelievable hosting bill affixed to the Outpost, and
thus met Stu Ronomi and spearheaded the investigations into
the Chorazos malware.
On May 25th, 2007 Bryce suffered a mental break which has left him
institutionalized. He was taken to Pickman Asylum in LA, where he
was treated as delusional and occasionally considered a danger to
himself and others. The circumstances that put him into the asylum
are yet uncertain—though it seems that he was on the brink of
figuring out something related to the Chorazos malware, when
suddenly he simply vanished. Upon hearing word that he was moved to
an asylum, Marie went to visit him and discovered his home filled
with blood and headless birds. Apparently he had been attempting to
do what the ancient Egyptian magician Dedi claimed to be able to
do—to put the heads on beheaded people and animals and bring them
back to life. We wish him and his family the best, and will
continue to document our hopes and prayers for his swift
recovery.
While at the asylum, he flickered in and out of normality, and he
kept talking about Dedi and saying “they don’t have to stay
dead.”
On January 30, 2008, Sentries Catherwood, Sphinx, unholychaos, and
Rogi met an agent of Forsythe Security in Sacramento,
California, to exchange knowledge. The Trussed Swan hard drive was
exchanged for Bryce’s medical files.
Exactly one year after he was put into the asylum, a doctor named
Dr. Jake Gateson released him, as Bryce
showed signs of complete normalcy. However, when Dr. Gateson was
interviewed by Eddie Pope, Gateson explained that Bryce was
suffering from hallucinations of a very peculiar nature, and that
he also repeated things that he heard—which were usually things not
heard by anyone else. Upon being released, Bryce traveled around
the country, performing his rituals at the hometowns of the “Lucky
5,” or the four dead Sentries (and Stu), in the process killing
many birds and apparently attempting to resurrect them.
When that didn’t work, Bryce discovered that Art was planting
tributes to the Lucky 5 at certain burial mounds around the
Midwestern and Southern US (it is speculated that the two may have
had contact, but that is unconfirmed). Bryce then followed Art to
the various burial mounds, performing some kind of ritual before
examining the boxes Art left and taking one of them. He may also
have left a “spooge” handprint, though the source of the spooges is
also unconfirmed. At the final pickup, Bryce was caught on film by
Eddie
Pope, who had been following him and trying to catch him as the
Tarot Killer. Bryce performed a dance-like
ritual, which seemed to procure a small metal medallion, which he
pocketed before running off. It should also be noted that during
his burial mound jaunts, Bryce seemed to be living on pie.
Bryce was next spotted on December 19, 2008, in New York City. He was
wandering around, seeming to follow the Sentries loosely or search
for the clues the Sentries were looking for himself. At one point,
he unexpectedly approached Bridget Anne Buttermore during one of
her more potent headaches and fainting spells, and benevolently
placed his medallion around her neck. That medallion seemed to
protect her somewhat, or shield her from the headaches and fainting
spells. That night, he met the Sentries at the cloister, where he
volunteered to take the metal cylinder that Art had found with the
“gatekeeper” into the cloister, where he presumably vanished with
it into the Dreamscape. Beyond that, his fate is
uncertain.
