I also got this yesterday.

From: Devon Conrad <whatyoumustseeSPLATgmail.com>
Subject: what you must see

Quote:
The city of our dreams is darker than it has ever been, but there is a light. She comes to us every night and wanders the streets, restlessly, with her offering of Hope.

She watches over you, Providence. She tells us that we must trust you, but I wonder why that must be; why must we trust a frustrated, injured, and furious dog? She trusts you, though. She lets you follow her up the hill. Sometimes she returns with tears in her eyes. Her visions are that strong and that powerful. What you have seen and what you have heard while you with her and I wasn't?

Do you hear the echoes of the scream in the mountains when she does? Do you hear the scream of the Old One? Do you see her at the gathering, at the last feast of quiet before the exodus? She tells us of a choice she will have to make… a choice that we will not like. She warns us that it is a choice she will make with us and with you and that nothing will be the same after that choice. Do you already know what that is, Providence?

Emmet tells us this means you will be here, too, with the Hidden and the Dreamers. I have my concerns, Providence, but I have my faith in them. I trust in his wisdom. I believe in her visions.

I have given my hands to Saint Feline for she gives them purpose. I have given my hands, my dirty hands, to Saint Feline for she will make them clean again. I have forsaken the brethren and put into motion what she has foreseen.

Prepare, Providence. Prepare for the Feast Before the Scream.

DC

We certainly do.

This is significantly awesome - glad I'm back at the Outpost in time to follow along with developments!

Yeah... And, if he's being honest in this e-mail, we can assume that DC != Chorazos. Though, from the e-mail, I kinda get the feeling that he might be an ex member of Chorazos:

I'm wondering, though, who's Emmet? Someone we already know?

Anyway, have you responded to him, yet? I'd be curious to see if he's willing to continue to communicate, or if this is a one-off sort of thing.

I've thought about it, but I have nothing to say, yet.

Plus also this orlando post: "It is through you, Saint Feline, that I can reject Chorazos." It also includes DC's bit about "extend your protection from the suffering at the end of all things," so I'm assuming that post was from him.

The way it's written it sort of sounds of like a reference to BA but I can't find anything that Emmet might be a reference to. It's not anyone I can remember though. No previous references on the boards or the wiki. Maybe one of the dreamers?

EDIT:

Well, DC asked us a question. He asked, basically, What do you know that we don't? and also Why should I trust you?

So we've got to answer that. Maybe we can tell him about what we've lost, what we've already given up in our attempts to help BA. And about the dreams we've collected. With the goal in mind of getting more information out of DC, maybe we should demand the same of him.

Maybe Exu (as was suggested earlier)? Or maybe B (the person who sent us the letters)? I'm wondering if it's wisdom that tells him that we will be there, of if he knows this because he's been leading us there. Food for thought.

I think we concluded that DC sent the letters.

I'm not sure I've ever met an actual Emmet in my entire life.

Okay so we have no idea who Emmet is.

I can guess that the "Dreamers" are the various individuals who posted the Orlando Craigslists.

Who are the Hidden??

And I can't tell you how nice it is to have a name - Devon Conrad - to go with the initials 'DC.'

I'm thinking of the Hidden as a catch-all for all the shadowy figures in Chorazos and the Conclave.

Are BA's Dreamers the cats in the dreamscape? They sound confused and as wary of us as we are of them. I get the feeling that they think we have become privy to BA's secrets and are jealous. What can we send them as proof of our good will? And Emmet? I keep thinking back to the man on the corner BA always saw in her dreams. We never got a name or anything for him, but he was always a constant like the old woman, the drummer, and us.

Devon also mentions the "Old One". More Lovecraft, but it gets confusing because he uses "Old Ones" for so many different aliens. The aliens in "At the Mountains of Madness" are the Elder Things, but also known as the Old Ones. They warred against the race of Cthulhu.

Old Ones can also refer to the Great Old Ones, alien beings of immense power and also the group Cthulhu belongs to. They are worshiped by cults and are currently imprisoned - beneath the sea, inside the Earth, in distant planetary systems. The reason for their captivity is not known, though there are two theories:

1. They were imprisoned by the Elder Gods for black magic transgressions (Edict?), or

2. They rest in a death-like sleep during the present cosmic cycle (like hibernating animals) until the planets are in a certain alignment for them to be released. To account for this, it is possible that the universe experiences cosmic cycles, similar to the natural seasons which occur on earth (reminds me of Exu's talk of cycles, timescales, long amounts of time).

No matter, they will return, causing worldwide insanity and mindless violence before finally displacing humanity forever!

I'm going to try to contact this dude and bring him (them?) here; I'll let you know how it goes.

EDIT: That might not be wise; I'll wait and see what they do first.
