We have the following recurring characters:

Providence: the dog = us

little girl on the library steps (she was new early in the story): ?

man on corner with drums of various kinds = Exu (how did he get in there?)

old woman: ?

street magician: Themagician or Bryce from our forum here

Anyone else:????????

------
We have the following recurring locations:

the building she wakes up in

the street

the narrow sidewalk

another building (?)

the library with steps

the cross street

the plaza (with old woman)

the fountain (in the center)

the fence with Providence

the woods

the lake

the old house

the coffee shop

the diner

the Wall

(what am I missing? It would be great if someone could make an approximate map of her travels. I looked at the mud today and I didn't see all the locations there. Maybe we can't put them all in? Is she always going the same direction? )

Another recuring element is that there seems to be some kind of pattern in the locations of the posts. The ones referencing Bryce all come from Los Angeles for example. And Harrisberg keeps pop out, usually with arabic phrases. I'd search for some more but I'm on a public computer on the moment. I'll do it when I get a chance.

Could all the "you's" be about Sentries?
Maybe Sentries and ex-Sentries?
Looking at the memberlist, I saw 7 active "old guard"
2 women, 5 men.

Also, we have the recurring "character" of the angel.
The angel points to the sky and she's broken.
Could the angel represent a radio-telescope or something used to send signals into deep space?

Are the little girl and the girl reading at the library the same person? They're beginning to feel like separate beings to me.

There's the little girl who is always yelling for the parents. She seems scared and aware of the chaos. She also reacts to BA in the real world and knows she is there.

The girl reading at the library was initially described as a little girl too (Utica 5/9/07) so I automatically assumed it was the same girl. In the latest set of posts she's described as a teenage girl (Torino 6/1/07). Going back over the reading girl posts, I notice this girl never notices BA. She doesn't ever react to the chaos either. It's as if she's not really there at all and sometimes seems to disappear during BA's encounters with her. BA herself is not entirely sure she is real or actually there. A dream within a dream? A scene from another reality that somehow touches BA's dreamworld, but can't react to it? She feels important, but I don't know what this character's angle is yet.

Quote:
The girl is new.

Sitting on the library steps, her nose in a book. We all have our ways of escaping madness. This must be hers. I watch for a few minutes. She blinks and turns the page. - I hear a scream. I turn my head. The girl is gone.

Quote:
She was different than the others here. She didn't feel the torment. She didn't know she was here. Maybe she wasn't. Can you imagine things in a dream?

Quote:
I look for the the little girl on the steps as I pass by the library. Of course, she's not there. Neither are the books nor the broken glass. The window has the same long crack in it that it's always had. It hasn't been replaced. How is that possible? You were there. You saw it. I saw you.

Quote:
Suddenly, she was sitting next to me. The teenaged girl with her nose in a book. So familiar. So lonely. Dropping the finger into my bag, I reach out to talk to her. To see what's she's reading. She's gone. Damn hallucinations.

Now which girl is the one who was on the cellphone? One of these two or someone entirely different?

You missed one:
Quote:
My mind races back to the little girl sitting alone on the steps and lost between pages. I scan the crowd hoping she's there, wishing she's not. I long to know whether she has survived whatever horrors found her. Something about her was so familiar. Perhaps I just relate to all girls sitting alone on library steps waiting for their mom to pick them up hours after the library closed.

It was this that made me think that the familiar girl at the library actually represents B.A. herself from when she was a child.

EDIT: and this quote about the other little girl sounds like B.A. has foreknowledge about this girl's future life, which makes is possible that this is a young B.A. also:
Quote:
The little girl comes running to me. Clutching her teddy bear. Asking if I've seen her father. I want to tell her the truth. I want to save her the lifetime of wondering. Of anger. But here, it doesn't matter. That anger might actually make her stronger.

EDIT2: Also, don't forget this:

Just another dream - w4w
Of a girl - w4w
Listening to drums - w4w
Looking for a gift - w4m
Feeling her presence - w4w
Seeing things clearly - w4m
Seeing too much - w4w
Gaining insight - w4w
Watching madness - w4m
Getting lost
Trying not to panic - w4w
Visiting an angel - w4m
Waking up - w4w

I can buy into that. Multiple time lines as multiple realities. BA at different ages being able to interact through the dreamworld. But why can one see and speak to her and the other either can't or refuses to?

Two opposite versions of herself... one stuck in the chaos and another who somehow followed a different path (time line?) and ended up in a peaceful world? Didn't BA (or was it the drummer?) ask us to choose wisely? Maybe there are two paths we can take.

From the most recent Torino CL:

Quote:
I dig into the bag, pull out the angel's finger, and examine it.

Suddenly, she was sitting next to me. The teenaged girl with her nose in a book. So familiar. So lonely. Dropping the finger into my bag, I reach out to talk to her. To see what's she's reading.

She's gone.

So as soon as she pulls out the angel's finger, the girl is suddenly there. As soon as she drops the finger back into the bag, the girl is gone. Magic girl-summoning finger, perhaps?

I, too, think the girls could be BA. In that respect, she could be the old woman as well.

I haven't gone back to check to see how consistent this has been across CLs, but this seems to be one likely order of the people/places ("A location. A moment. A name.") in the dreamworld:

Building/elevator
|
Street with crowd/frenzy
|
The man playing drums
|
The dog behind the fence
|
The old woman
|
Library
|
Plaza/fountain
|
Coffee shop
|
Street magician
|
Woods
|
Old house
|
Cemetery

What else? Also, if this is right, it seems clear that the existing MUD could be extended greatly..

I know in one of the recent postings she mentions going North to find the woods - but I think she is lost in that one. I have a terrible spatial memory so I am not much good at putting this together. ( Anyone who has been anywhere with me knows how true that statement is.)

The only things I think are missing are:

the lake

the caves

the diner

the traintracks outside the town/city

And, yes I think the mud could and should be expanded to include all of these things. Even if we just put them in and have to move them is that a problem? I will help to do this if someone tells me how to add things outside of a room. Is that something only certain people can do?

Ooh! Extending everyone's current speculation, could this be the timeline of BA's entire life? Little girl looking for daddy, to teenager on the steps, to old woman, to....her own grave at the base of the angel.
Has someone tried to get a dream submission to ask her to read the name at the base of the Angel? That would be tres Spukhafte if it said BA St. Feline. 1962-2006. or some such.

Mapmaker, true to his name, decided to add some of the dreamworld locations to the MUD. He wanted me to post this so that everyone knew they didn't just magically appear.

The new part starts by heading 'west' from the area outside Providence's fence.

This new area needs to be populated with appropriate objects and descriptions...

I hope B.A. appreciates it.

Thanks, Dante - I had to get something to eat as I hadn't eaten all day. I'll get a map or something posted once I'm basically finished with the outline. If people would like to write descriptions for me, that'd be wonderful. Either PM them to me or post them here?

Cool!

Mapmaker, if you haven't already added the library, you can feel free to use the one I created whenever that was. Anyone should be able to add to it, link to it, or jump to it. Right now, you can get to it through my room (mkaos mkasa - mi kasa es su kasa. That cracks me up every time Laughing) or teleport to it (#1584). If you already added one, no big deal Smile

I'll be glad to write some descriptions, but I couldn't even put a description for my own Nook when I tried. Laughing Oh well. If anyone wants to leave me anything in there to liven up the non-descript Nook, you're welcome to it.
