| The post worries me a bit. What does she mean by the "online program"? Are we going to be cut off from her for good? I hope not...we need each other, and who knows what else is going on behind our backs. |

i think the "online program" text is from 2006. I can double check that.

Woah that's so weird @_@
I try to open your links to those three "warped" jpgs and all I get is a massive amount of unintelligible code.
And I'm getting a few different pictures when I reload, but I don't remember which ones they are because I haven't looked at them in a while. I'll go with what you said they were. _________________ ~Dav Flamerock

| Yeah, I get the same thing when I click the links. On the site itself, it generally shows the proper pictures, but sometimes when I click links on the site I get the same weird code. |

A brief observation: I occasionally get a 409 Conflict error. It's got some misspellings?
| Web Server wrote: |
Conflict
The server encountered an internal error or misconfigurationand was unable to complete your request.
Please contact the server administrato and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.
More information about this error may be available in the server error log. |
Normally I wouldn't care, but those misspellings aren't found in a Google search. Of course, I bet that 419 errors are sufficiently rare (I haven't come across one before) such that they quite rarely get index, and if you couple that with just the right web server release, you probably get your explanation.
Edit to add that I occasionally get a 424 error as well.
Edit a second time: I just got a 417? And I got a 404!? On something that was there a second ago and is there now? Uhh...
Edit #3: I have gotten, in no particular order, a combination of: 400, 404, 408, 410, 413, 417, 419, 422, 423, 424, and 426 errors in my refreshing. Hm.

Same here. Just weird code on the links. Sometimes the images are warped, sometimes normal. _________________ Having abandoned my search for the truth I am now looking for a good fantasy.

Man, why am I getting so many errors? You could say the random appearance of such old, impenetrable vestiges of the origins of the Internet is sort of eldritch, eh?
Edited edit: I'm gonna change this to a double-post just because. |

So what can we do with http://www.bseeingu.com/errors/chrysalis.cgi? Nothing so far. But CGI scripts want input, often, so maybe there's a "correct" input to be found.
On another note, Catherwood found that the CGI script gives error codes too - except these are in the 500s, not the 400s of the images. I've seen 500, 501, 502, 504, and 506 myself. Going back to the pictures, however, I've found that these now give me 500-level errors as well. So did we trigger something that has changed the errors? Or do they change with time? Or what? Sigh. |

| Are these errors even real? I've never heard of most of them. |

(OK, since Mapmaker has 'outed' me for being back from my leave of absence, I'll post)
I didn't see any misspellings in my error messages, just the occasional lack of spacing between words. They are real error *codes*, but I do not believe the server is experiencing these errors for real. Doing some research, I've found that The five hundred series of errors indicate something is wrong at the server and it is unable to complete the action. -- and we didn't specify an action other than loading the file (which itself might be requesting an action in the .cgi script that is generating the random error codes, which only fails when you get *no* error)
Oh, and my research also gave me a list of error codes here:
http://bignosebird.com/apache/a5.shtml
I personally saw an additional 506 code, but further research tells me that "506 Variant Also Negotiates" may be unique to the Apache Web Server (or haunted machines)
(I made up that last part) |

Anyone able to peek inside the cgi file? Whenever I try right-click save-as, it disappears as soon as I save it. (And yes, I have hidden files on, and tried looking for it in the command prompt as well) _________________ "Some humans would do almost anything to see if it was possible to do it. Addendum to above: Now the /errors/chrysalis.cgi page is giving me error codes in the 400's range. I swear it wasn't doing so earlier.
A more complete list of valid errors and their meanings can be found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_HTTP_status_codes
And one cannot see the contents of a .cgi file, exactly. It's a script, much as a .php "page" is merely a script which processes your request and then delivers you an HTML page full of content. PHP and cgi and perl scripts are invoked by your request via a url, but then the server gets to do things like add dynamic content and decide whether or not you get to see a page requiring access priviledges.
Bottom line: we're seeing the html page which the script decides we should see -- which is either entirely blank or delivering an error status code. |

I will have to delve into this further and see what I can find... oh and btw I'm baaaaack again... lol... been waiting for something interesting to pop up to investigate for a while... the silence has been killing me knowing that these people could be doing anything behind our backs and we wouldn't have the slightest clue... can't wait to go revisit my dreamworld and see if anything interesting pops up... _________________ Quoth the Raven, Nevermore will you see your lost Lenore! |
