Oops, so sorry. I didn't mean for this to become a new topic. Can somebody move this post to the "Message in a Prattle" subject where it more appropriately belongs?

Leave it to me to do something stooopid on my third post.

Done! Very Happy

The Conclave is the name given to the meetings held by the Council. It would appear that within the Council there exists at least one sub-group, the Esoteric, who rarely, if ever, attend a Conclave.

Exu says that the Council brought him before them, they didn't request his attendance nor extend a friendly invite. This suggests that the Council have a strong controlling influence over the members of the Esoteric, a position backed up by the various texts we have found.

I would be slow to suggest that either party has been tinkering with things without the knowledge of the other, regardless of their beliefs at the time.

Whilst writing this a spark went off in my brain causing me to start reaching. What if Exu was brought to the Conclave by the two MIB? What if the MIB lifted Alan and carted him off for Council re-education? He would still be alive. A glimmer of hope.

I really have an objection to referring to the "Esoteric" as a group. I'm pretty sure he was referring to himself as an "Esoteric" to describe his wide and unconventional areas of expertise.

It is possible that Exu is referring to himself only with the use of Esoterics, but the way he phrases it makes this scenario very unlikely
Exu, in his letter wrote:
Few of the Esoteric ever attend a Conclave, yet they brought me before them.

The Edict, and by extension, the Agreement, suggest that separate organisations among the Council are commonplace.
The Edict wrote:
Organizations themselves will face direct punishment from Conclave if there are second violations.

It might be useful to think of the Council as a sort of United Nations of mystically inclined organizations.

I ran across this web site that summarizes the significance of King Exu in the Santeria religion. The picture at the top of the page matches our eXu's avatar in the forum so I imagine that he created his profile using this because it matches his general outlook on life. Maybe this gives us some insight into his motvations.

http://www.necronomi.com/magic/satanism/Exu.html

I could be reading more into it than it deserves, but here are a couple of interesting Excerpts:

"They tender the offering to Exu, the male aspect of the Pomba-Gira. For it is believed that without calling upon Exu, the ceremony cannot take place."

"It is believed that if one sacrifices to him well, he will be fairly disposed to plead human causes before the gods."

"On a deeper level, the fact that Exu is this universal agent of magic implies much more. Exu is the point of communication between the sacred and the profane, and as such, can be likened to the Greek god, Hermes, also known as Mercury (Roman), Thoth (Egyptian), and Odin (Norse). He intercedes between the people and what they consider to be their spiritual roots-an idealized Africa, or another dimension of the cosmos."

Odin... reminds me of the thirteenth warrior when they are about to find land and they're screaming "ODIN!!!!"

Sorry to resurrect another thread from the dead, but I've been reading this back over again, trying to think about all of our speculation before the WV investigators checked in and after. I'm trying my best to just turn off my over-analytical mind (ie, stop worrying about specific details, look for the pattern.)

So I don't know if I'm going anywhere with this, but it occurred to me I had never just searched on "Exu music". Turns out there's a crapload of it out there, but most of 'em want you to pay for it. YouTube has a ton of it, some of downright bootie-shaking if you can keep from being freaked out by random Cheech-as-Acid-Queen rap segments. What the . . .? Who knew the Brazilians had such a thing for Exu?

Again, the patterns and music and mysticism and general creepiness! I've always promised to keep Exu's real name a secret, but I can assure you it isn't Brazilian, and "Exu" isn't exactly a pseudonym I've ever known him to use before. I always assumed it was just some trivial random handle he chose when I begged him to help us, but maybe that choice actually tells us something about what he was thinking about when he first met us? Because he's maintained that "name" ever since with the Outpost.

Okay, must close out Creepy-Cheech. He gets on my nerves fast.

Woh, that's some freaky stuff!

This almost sounds like our oblation file: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=erP0yIkfs08

This stuff is very reminiscent of Santeria/VooDoo

Well I found this.

It actually sounds like eXu's personality/how he sees himself. There are a couple other meanings behind the name, this one seemed like the best.

Howard, does Exu have a website? Or any other way to give us a good psychological profile of him?

No almost, that's definitely in there. Well, the rythm.mp3 file anyway.
Sid is working with the rythm file to see if we can use this to filter out the extra goodies and get to the voice.

Woah there! Wait a second, I'm confused again. Are we talking about "Exu" or are we talking about the drummer in B.A.'s dreams? Which I guess begs the question, what are all the files on bseeingu.com? I was assuming they were all memories or thoughts or something of B.A.?

Was B.A. dreaming about drums because of the drummer or because of "Exu"? Wait, that was in daytime, so it couldn't have been a dream? A memory of a dream? Makes me think about the oblation again, too, since it doesn't make any sense what kind of memory that might be from B.A. (heck, I thought it was a memory from 80s but now I'm not even sure about that -- a memory of a dream? a memory from last weekend?)

The "Exu" I know is a old coot of an retired Miskatonic professor. I think he was there since his undergrad days, they had to crowbar him away from his teaching position at retirement age a few years ago. He has his creepy ways about him, but he's hardly a voodoo god, I think he's from English descent. I've always assumed at least half of his mystical mumbo jumbo was to cover up for a failing memory.

This is just as damn confusing as the Craigslists used to be.

I think that the drummer is the avatar of eXu in the dream world, kinda like the manifestation of all of us is providence. Which brings us to her latest youtube post.

Quote:
I really don't know how I did. But I think it was the drummer. He was there, or- at least- I don't know I wasn't dreaming but I knew that he had something that he wanted to show me or- I think that we made some kind of a deal and there was a little boy or a prayer or a Zeus or- I mean it makes no sense, but then again the drummer never does.

So this tells us a few things:
1) the scream only effects dreamers or eXu is a more powerful dreamer than BA
2) eXu was in WV (@#$^* him for not coming to the feast)
3) some "little boy/a prayer/Zeus" is under his protection

I think this is Howard from the previous discussion here and I can see eXu calling Howard a "little boy". No offense Howard it sounds like he would call everyone under 30 a "little boy"

and 4) eXu is confusing with everyone, not just us (which is good to know)
